Black Women in STEM Organization Launches Scholarship Program
New $2.5 million scholarship program aims to increase Black women's representation in STEM fields.
The National Society of Black Women in STEM has launched a new scholarship program that will provide $25,000 annually to 100 Black women pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.\n\nThe initiative aims to address the significant underrepresentation of Black women in STEM fields, where they comprise less than 3% of the workforce despite being over 7% of the U.S. population.\n\n"Talent is equally distributed, but opportunity is not," said society president Dr. Nicole Washington. "These scholarships will help remove financial barriers and ensure that the next generation of Black women scientists and engineers can achieve their full potential."\n\nThe program includes mentorship from Black women STEM professionals and internship opportunities at leading technology and research institutions.
