The Green Book Legacy
From 1936 to 1966, The Negro Motorist Green-Book was an essential guide for African American travelers during the Jim Crow era. Created by Victor Hugo Green, a Harlem postal worker, it listed hotels, restaurants, gas stations, and other businesses where Black travelers could safely stop.
The Green Book wasn't just a travel guide—it was a lifeline. It represented the power of community, the importance of Black-owned businesses, and the resilience of a people determined to travel with dignity despite oppression.
GreenNet carries forward this legacy for the digital age. Just as the original Green Book connected travelers with safe, welcoming Black-owned establishments, we connect the global community with Black-owned businesses across 195 countries.
“Carry Your Green Book with you... you may need it.”
